Berwyn, IL, a suburb of Chicago with about 50,000 residents, impounded 645 cars under a car stereo ordinance last year and 336 as of October this year.
Fees for getting one’s car back after the police tow it can be as high as $800, including a $500 impound fee, which some resident find onerous, according to MySuburbanLife.com
The City police department has collected more than $624,000 in fines since 2009 through the ordinance.

I read the article & my heart sank into my stomach. I have a very loud stereo system in my car & hate getting pulled over period. For a kid to get pulled over, watch his mom\’s car get taken away for playing loud music with a stock stereo, that is truly insane! What is next? Tell the car manufactures to stop selling cars with a radio? What does this translate to the aftermarket scene? Do we just let the government officials just bend us (you) over & rape us legally? That is just highway roberry without any kind of say. I believe that the punishment is overboard. $750+ is well overboard. I would love to see what would happen to one of those goverment officials who phased the bill, get pulled over for blasting Frank Sinatra, Garth Brooks or Sade & see how they react…. \"I wasn\’t playing it loud.
