The Auto Page C3—the first remote car starter that your cellphone controls—has been updated to communicate with apps for smartphones.

Auto Page Gen2 C3No longer must you download software from a PC to your phone before it can remotely start the car.

The new Gen2 C3 Hybrid is a $299 module that works with free apps for Android, iPhone and BlackBerry phones and lets you start your car from anywhere, with virtually unlimited range, from your smartphone. It also permits two-way remote start to confirm that the engine has actually started.

With the update, the module becomes the only smartphone system to be compatible with any brand of remote starter including OEM models, claims Auto Page.

The Gen2 unit is also smaller than the original, which first shipped in 2008, and it relies on fewer wires for a quicker installation.

Available next month, the unit also offers GPS tracking and location based services including geofence boundary alerts and speed alerts. It replaces the original C3.
