It looks like Amazon’s rumored tablet may get an October launch, according to The Wall Street Journal which says the device will bear a roughly 9-inch screen and run on Android. Beyond that we know little of the tablet, except that it may lack a camera.
Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos tacitly admitted in May that the online retailer will offer a tablet this year, but gave no details.
Sony, for its part, showed reporters Wednesday, the S1 and S2 tablets it announced earlier and said that AT&T will exclusively provide 4G service (HSPA+) for the S2 tablet—a dual screen model that resembles a highly stylized Nintendo DS.
The S1 is a 9.4-tablet whose design is tapered and thinner on the bottom. It will be available with WiFi.
The S2 can be folded in half. It has dual 5.5-inch displays that can be combined to create one large screen; or users can watch a video on one screen and use the other screen for input commands. Or they can view email on one screen and type on the other. It will run on Android Honeycomb and offer both WiFi and 4G service.
The devices are expected to ship this fall.
