80 percent of Massive Audio’s Pro Audio business for the car is in South America, but the Latin taste for Pro Audio is expected to generate some niche growth in the U.S.
Pro Audio car speakers represent about 5 percent of the company’s sales currently in the U.S. but Int’l sales manager Jeremy Larsson expects it to grow to 10 or 15 percent in the next few years.
“We’re finding that more of our Latino customers are getting involved all around in car audio,” he said.
Pro Audio speakers tend to have higher sensitivity than typical car audio. A 6-inch speaker might have a sensitivity of 102dB while a typical car audio speaker operates at 92dB. Pro Audio focuses on the mid-range, while general car audio in the U.S. tends to focus on bass.
Massive recently brought to the U.S. some of the Pro Audio lines it’s offered in South America since last year including three separate series of midrange speakers and a T-series of super bullet tweeters.
One line includes slim mount mid-range component speakers with extra neodymium magnets for more power and special heat shielding on top of the speaker to dissipate heat. Models include a 6-inch “Slim” at $119 SRP per speaker and an 8-inch model at $149. A 10-inch version will be available at $169 and the units will be offered in coaxial versions.
The full lines of mid-range and mid-bass products and super bullet tweeters may be seen here.
