The release of OnStar’s retail mirror has been delayed from April until the end of June, according to several retailers and other industry sources.

OnStar is waiting for an improved microphone that works with its expected $299 aftermarket mirror. The new microphone is said to boost sound quality so it’s on a par with OnStar when it is embedded in a vehicle from the factory, according to a source.

OnStar retail mirror delayedOnStar had no official comment.

An iSuppli analyst forecast earlier this month that OnStar will sell around 230,000 units of the aftermarket mirror in calendar 2011 and then work its way up to 1 million units a year.

The mirror should be offered in about 3,000 store outlets including Best Buy locations.
