Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 is not setting any records, but at least the platform is showing signs of life.
The company said it sold more than 2 million units of Windows Phone 7 in its last quarter. And App development has been strong with more than 6,500 apps available in Microsoft’s market.
But Microsoft has a lot of catching up to do. Android and Apple iOS devices are each activated at a rate of 200,000-300,000 per day, said DigitalTrends.
Still, IDC analyst Al Hilwa said Windows Phone 7, launched last fall, is making headway. “The numbers show pretty good momentum on the sales of the platform…The apps numbers are excellent for this early stage of the lifecycle,” reported MSNBC.
Apple sold 16.2 million iPhones in its last quarter and RIM sold 14.2 million BlackBerries in its recent quarter.
