Motorola Mobility Plans 2 Tablets

Motorola plans to supply 2 tablet PCs through a new separate company–Motorola Mobility–due to spin off on January 4.

Current co-CEO Sanjay Jha, who will lead Motorola Mobility said Wednesday, “We’re planning to participate quite fully in (the tablet) category…” reports Chicago Breaking Business.

He told an investment bank conference that Motorola research shows that 10- and 11-inch tablets are seen as business devices while 7-inch tablets are seen as more “fun” devices that are more easily carried on one’s person or in a purse.

Motorola Mobility is hosting a media event on the eve of the Consumer Electronics Show. Motorola did not immediately return our request for confirmation.

Reuters also reports that the new company plans to introduce at CES a video streaming device that delivers movies and video to tablets and cellphones. The new device will eventually be integrated into a set top box. Initially it will only stream to portables that are used within the home due to existing technology contracts with hardware makers and operators.
