Ever wonder whose voice we hear on a Viper security system when it says, “Please step away from the car.”
The voice is that of former Directed Electronics founder Darrell Issa who is now a Congressman (R-Calif), and the richest man in the House because of the profits he reaped at Directed Electronics, according to The NY Times.
It’s nice to know that someone became mega wealthy selling car electronics.
Issa has been a member of the House since 2001, after Issa and his wife Kathy sold their controlling interest in Directed in 2000.
They founded Directed Electronics in 1982 in Cleveland, Ohio and then moved the business to Southern California where it flourished due to a rise in auto theft.
The Viper and Python brands were launched and sales more than doubled between 1989 and 1990, according to SourceWatch.org.
Issa received the Entrepreneur of the Year Award from Inc. Magazine, Ernst & Young, and The San Diego Union-Tribune.
We find our car stereo monolith is set to become a political lightning rod. He’s about to take over the post of chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, and he’s making headlines as he plans to hold hearings to investigate the Obama administration. Issa is also organizing a campaign to cut waste in government spending.
Issa made the front page of The New York Times on Sunday.
