Acer announced its plans to enter the tablet age, with a family of 5 models, including a smartphone-tablet similar to the Dell Streak and a dual-screen notebook/tablet.
The line-up also includes a 10.1 inch tablet available either as an Android or a Windows device. It displays 1080p video, supports Flash and it uses a Qualcomm dual-core 1 Ghz processor, said PC World. It also offers front and rear cameras.
A smaller Android tablet with a 7-inch screen uses a 1.2GHZ Qualcomm processor and supports Flash.
Yet an even tinier smartphone/tablet with a 4.8 inch screen will offer front and rear facing cameras with HD recording.
All of Acer’s Android tablet devices will be available in April and will run Honeycomb or Google’s upcoming version of Android optimized for tablets, said Engadget.
Also displayed today at a press conference in NYC was Acer’s tablet/notebook called Iconia. It looks like a notebook except the keyboard is replaced by a second screen. Some Web pages can be displayed across both 14-inch screens. Or a soft keyboard pops up when you touch the second screen using multiple fingers. The device will run Windows 7 overlaid with Acer’s touch command software.
Acer also previewed a Clear.Fi service that lets you share content across many different devices. And it showed its “Alive” media store to debut in the U.S. early next year. Initially, it will offer 8 million songs, 2,000 movies and 1,500 music videos, as well as some games and applications.
