Update: As expected Apple announced that music by The Beatles is now available for download on iTunes, ending years of legal wrangling between 2 iconic Apples (Apple Corp. and Apple Inc.) 16 Beatles albums are now listed on iTunes and songs may also be purchased individually.

Single albums are $12.99 each, double albums are $19.99 and individual songs each cost $1.29.

Apple’s Steve Jobs said, “We love the Beatles and are honored and thrilled to welcome them to iTunes… It has been a long and winding road to get here. Thanks to the Beatles and EMI, we are now realizing a dream we’ve had since we launched iTunes ten years ago.”

Original Story: As anyone with a radio or TV heard this morning, Apple is expected to announce that the Beatles catalogue will finally be available on iTunes. Or so says the Wall Street Journal.

iTunes has roughly a 90 percent share of the online music business and the Beatles are still the number 3 selling band in terms of albums in the U.S., according to Nielsen. The Beatles sold 3.3 million albums in the U.S. in 2009—39 years after their break up.

Also, Steve Jobs is reportedly a big Beatles fan.

But with the similar monikers of the Beatle’s Apple Corp. and Apple’s Apple Inc, the two icons of their respective industries have been in a trademark dispute for years. It is said, that the Beatle’s recording studio, EMI is now in financial trouble, which may have hastened Apple Corp.’s willingness to deal with Apple, Inc.
