New Scosche S3-1

Scosche will reveal at the SEMA show Tuesday, 2 new car devices it claims are the first of their kind including the S3-1.

Since car radios in the Mustang, Taurus and Camaro are bundled with air conditioning controls, Scosche is offering the first kit to permit an aftermarket radio in these vehicles while letting you keep full color touch screen AC control, it said. Kits at about $300 each will be available for the Mustang (FD1441B), Ford Taurus (FD1447B), and Camaro (GM5201B). They plug directly into the factory AC harness for simple installation.

Scosche will also ship in late winter the S3-1 that lets you keep steering wheel controls when swapping in an aftermarket car radio. The company says the device is the first to work in many types of vehicles and with many types of car radios. It’s compatible with Pioneer, Alpine, Clarion, Kenwood, JVC and Sony radios through a selectable steering wheel control switch.

The single kit can be configured for over 40 million vehicles including GM, Chrysler, Toyota and Ford models. So it reduces the number of kits dealers must stock, essentially replacing 11 separate SKUs from Scosche. The S3-1, at $169.95, also retains warning chimes and provides navigation outputs.

  1. How can we help to deter this kind of radio and a/c combinations from happening . It obviously creates less options for the consumer. I have customers with me/be that for years have had problems with their radios. I haven’t been able to give them an affordable option. I’m talking about me/be that are 5-6 years old not new either.

  2. it is cool they can do this but time you buy the kit and install this unit and buy the radio consumer just will walk away because of price you buy $250.00 headunit + $50 for installation and another $300.00 for the s3-1 unit itself then tax looking at $700 +.This is why we need to stop the car manufactures from doing this. if this keeps up car audio will be out of business as we know it.
