Barnes & Noble revealed yesterday it sold 1 million Nook eReaders to date, as it announced a color eReader—the NOOKcolor.

Forrester Research estimates that the bookseller will sell 2 million Nook devices by the end of 2010, closing in on Sony Readers for second place, said Reuters.

But Amazon still has a wide lead. It should sell 6 million Kindles this year, in the U.S., winning a market share of over 60 percent.

As for the total eReader market it will hit 10.3 million unit sales in the U.S. by year’s end and grow to 15.5 million by the end of 2011, according to Forrester.

The average eReader owner spends about $60 per year on eBooks.
