Verizon Wireless says it will start selling Samsung’s Galaxy Tab tablet next month for a hefty price tag of $600.
Chalk one up for Apple, as the Samsung Galaxy Tab–arguably the first tablet rivals to the iPad–will now be priced higher than the WiFi version of the 9.7-inch iPad that starts at $499. And the Samsung device has a smaller, 7-inch screen.
The 3G version of the iPad starts at $629.
Verizon said that it will start selling Samsung’s Galaxy Tab on Nov. 11 with a $20 per month data plan for up to 1GB of data, said the AP.
Verizon will also start selling the iPad on Oct. 28. But the iPad is not yet optimized for the Verizon network so it requires a $130 add-on MiFi wireless access device is also required.
In a basic comparison, an iPad 3G + WiFi with 16GB of memory and 9.7-inch screen costs $629 but it lacks a camera and doesn’t support Flash. A 3G + WiFi Galaxy Tab with 16 or 32GB (to be specified) of memory and 7-inch screen costs $600 and it has two cameras and supports Flash.
The Tab is expected to be offered through all four leading carriers.
