In an age when BMWs and Mercedes-Benzes have safety systems that rely on radar, what’s a radar detector company to do?
K40 has come out with a dual radar detector system that avoids interfering with the radar system in your luxury car.
If your BMW 7 Series has automatic cruise control, typically you can’t use a radar detector because the cruise control uses K band radar.
K40’s new RL360 gets around the problem by letting you turn off K band in the front detector.
The car still has full radar detection because the rear detector will still pick up K band without causing interference. And the car still gets 360 degree full-band protection, says K40’s Lynette Tomlinson.
The RL360 was introduced at KnowledgeFest and is available now at a street price of $1,850 including installation or $2,100 if you include a laser diffuser.
K40 says the RL360 is the only radar/laser detector to offer 360 degree protection around the car. It has over 100 customizable features so K40 encourages you or the dealer to call a hotline to go over the device’s settings.
You can also program the device so it won’t give you alerts when you are traveling below a certain speed.
And you can set it to flash repeatedly if you go over a certain speed, for those with teen drivers.

Too bad the system can’t utilize the OEM radar sensor for K band.
