Verizon, AT&T to Sell iPad

Verizon will be selling the iPad this Christmas, even if it won’t get the iPhone until possibly next year.

Both Verizon and AT&T announced they will sell the iPad starting October 28.

But since the iPad’s 3G chip doesn’t work on Verizon’s network, the carrier will sell only WiFi versions of the iPad and then bundle them with a MiFi portable hot spot. The bundle will be offered in more than 2,000 Verizon stores at $630 for a 16GB model, up to $830 for a 64GB, which Macworld says is compatible to the cost of a 3G iPad. Service fees are $20 a month for 1GB with no contract. You can also get the WiFi iPad without the hotspot through Verizon at similar prices to those at the Apple Store.

AT&T will sell the 3G + WiFi version of the iPad at more than 2,200 stores. Service fees are $15 or $25 (250MB or 2GB) with no contract.

The iPad continues to gain distribution heading into the holidays with Best Buy, Target and Walmart carrying the device as well as some regional CE chains and Apple resellers.
