Ford CEO to Give CES Keynote

Given that Audi and now Ford will present keynote addresses at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, we think this year’s Las Vegas fest will be a showdown for which car company can prove its got the best smartphone connectivity platform.

We wouldn’t be shocked to hear announcements from GM’s OnStar and Hyundai at CES, as the race is on to perfect the smartphone connection to car radios.

Ford CEO Alan Mulally will return for the third time as a keynote speaker at CES. His presentation was announced only a few days after it was revealed that Audi executive Rupert Stadler will also give a keynote address.

Also, CES this year will include an electric vehicle showcase of electric cars and energy storage devices and chargers.
Show sponsor, the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) says 40 percent of consumers are likely to test drive an electric vehicle.

“Major automotive exhibitors like Audi, Ford, GM OnStar and Toyota will be at CES,” said CEA head Gary Shapiro. “CES is the place to be for in-vehicle electronics, including both vehicle OEMs and the aftermarket. Telematics and consumer-centric apps will enable a host of in-vehicle services…”

Like we said, smartphone connectivity is now up there with MPG when it comes to cars.

CES this year will be held January 6-9 in Las Vegas.

Other CES keynote headliners include Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer, Verizon’s Ivan Seidenberg and Samsung’s Boo-Kewn.
