LG Electronics is planning an Android tablet for Q4 under its Optimus line.
The tablet will focus on getting work done. Unlike the iPad, which has been deemed a media-viewing device, LG says its tablet will allow more document creation and video editing and creation programs.
An LG marketing VP told the Wall Street Journal the company is also planning to release 10 more smartphones starting in September and sell 5 million devices by the end of the year, as it seeks to catch up in the smartphone race where it has only a 1.2 percent share, according to Gartner.
The first new smartphone will be the Optimus One, designed for first time smartphone customers. Then the strategy is to release numerous phones to cater to a wide range of tastes. The company plans to be aggressive in 4G with an LTE phone expected by early next year.
