In the few months that the iPad has been in consumer’s hands, it has become their preferred method for reading, according to a poll by UK-based Cooper Murphy Webb.
Among the 1,034 U.K. iPad owners surveyed, 41 percent said they preferred reading books on an iPad over printed books. Also 31 percent preferred reading newspapers and magazines on the iPad compared to printed periodicals.
The study also found that almost 50 percent of iPad owners use their device 10 to 20 hours or more per week.
The iPad is also preferred for gaming, even over a game console. Thirty-seven percent of the respondents said the iPad was their favorite gaming device compared to 35 percent who favored a console and 22 percent who favored a laptop. Only 6 percent of iPad users favored a phone for gaming.
Twenty-four percent use the iPad as their primary entertainment device compared to laptops (33 percent); TVs (19 percent) and mobile phones (22 percent).
Also, most owners use the iPad at home and rarely or never take it with them when they leave the house.
