Amazon has become increasingly competitive in car audio and is now offering an aggressive 45 percent discount on select car electronics to customers who have shopped its electronics section in the past.
The company is promoting the sale through a targeted email campaign which allows select customers to apply the discount rate on up to 70 car amps, speakers and sub woofers from top brands.
Suppliers say the online reseller has become a growing force in car electronics.
Amazon confirmed it sees car electronics as “an exciting area that customers really care about” and as a “growth opportunity” according to an Amazon director Jim Adkins who responded to a CEoutlook inquiry.
“We’ll continue to expand our selection and introduce new enhancements that remove barriers to purchasing 12V products online,” he said.
The car electronics online store now sells 15,000 SKUs after launching in October 2008. It offers a fit guide that lets consumers “garage their vehicle in their Amazon account” so Amazon tells them automatically which products fit their car. The company also works with InstallerNet to offer installation through a network over 3,000 installers.
Adkins says Amazon’s car electronics audience includes both hardcore enthusiasts and average buyers.
