Google Inc and Apple continue to cross each others paths as the search engine giant will soon launch an online store for items including games, magazines and apps that would compete with Apple’s iTunes.
The Google online store would be accessed through its Chrome browser, which has 70 million users, up from 30 million a year ago, said the company, Reuter’s reported. Google also announced a new Web video format called webm that is open-source and royalty free.
New netbooks running an upcoming Google Chrome operating system are also expected later this year that will offer boot up times of only a few seconds and access only web-based software. Reuters said Google is also expected to unveil an Internet TV device along with Sony and Intel at its two-day developer conference that started today.
