Google will launch an eBookstore possibly in June or July creating an eBookstore platform that may be adopted by any book retailer’s website reports the Wall Street Journal. Called Google Editions, the eBookstore will compete with Amazon, Apple and Barnes & Noble who have also jumped in aggressively in the eBook space.
While Google’s eBookstore will let other retailers sell eBooks, Google would take most of the revenue. Users could download the books to a variety of devices. Google also hasn’t decided if it will charge publishers its own set prices or let publishers set the price, said the WSJ.
Apple launched its iBookstore on April 3 and has sold more than 1.5 million titles in less than 30 days, it said.
Google is also rumored to be planning a tablet device, according to a New York Times blog.
