Flanner’s Home Entertainment, the 100+ year audio/video retailer and institution in Brookfield, Wisconsin, has closed its doors, but is actively seeking to reopen.
A message on its website today says, “…we are temporarily pausing operations. We appreciate all of the support we’ve received as a local, family owned, independent business, and we intend to continue serving this community for years to come.” Signed by owner John Flanner, the message adds that the store has been challenged by the economic downturn and is in the process of renegotiating its business and financing relationships.
A story April 30 in the Milwaukee Wisconsin Journal Sentinel said Flanner’s has not filed for bankruptcy and quoted John Flanner as saying, “We are actively seeking to work this out.” He added, “We were so constrained in the last couple of weeks. If we’re not providing the kind of service we want, we just need to pause.”
Flanner’s is a member of the PRO Group. The business was started by John Flanner’s great-grandfather, Joseph, in 1891, selling sheet music.
Flanner’s and the PRO Group did not respond to CEoutlook inquiries.

  1. I wish John and the entire Flanner’s team the best as they work through these challenging times. This is a testament that even the BEST retailers have been challenged with the economy of the past 18 months.
If anyone can implement the necessary steps needed to get their organization back on track, it is John.
Wishing you the best in challenging times.
