JL Audio is taking its HD compact car amp line and offering it in a more affordable XD series that is now shipping. Also the XD series is about 33 to 65 percent smaller than the HD line.
The XD amps claim efficiencies of about 80 percent. New models lead with the XD600/1—a 600 watt mono amp at $449.95 suggested retail price and jump to the XD400/4 full range Class D amp (4 x 100W @ 2 ohms per channel) also at $449.95. Next is the XD600/6 full range Class D 3/4/5/6 channel amp (6 x 100W @ 2 ohms per channel) at $549.95. Additional 5- and 2-channel versions will follow mid-year. Prices are lower than the HD series which ranges from about $700 to $1,000.
