Here’s a backdoor way that iPhone navigation just got cheaper (where it’s not already free). Navigon just launched a new turn-by-turn iPhone app that lets users buy only a regional map, AND upgrade as they drive to expand the map.
Users can buy the Eastern region Navigon MyRegion iPhone app for $24.99 for example, and upgrade to the Central and Western regions at $12.99 each. Typically, if these were purchased as separate regional apps the user would need to close one app and launch another when crossing borders, said Navigon. MyRegion maps however are seamless– the user actually downloads the full U.S. map on purchasing one region and the remainder can be activated.
Navigon also still offers the full North American MobileNavigator app for $79.
The above are introductory prices. After April 12, the first Navigon MyRegion app will cost $29.99 with additional maps for $14.99.
