The first CarPlay car radio expected to dip below a street price of $350 is due in March from Boss Audio.

The company said at CES its double DIN radio will carry a street price of $349.  It will be mechless with a 6.75 inch capacitive touch screen with Bluetooth audio streaming and steering wheel control. Boss Audio is waiting for final approval on the unit from Apple.

Other features of Boss’ CarPlay radio include USB, aux in, camera input, day night mode and RBDS tuning.   A second version with Android Auto is also planned for the future.

A Planet Audio CarPlay version, also at $349 street price is planned for April. The unit is similar but with an oversized DIN chassis.

Separately, JBL said its $399 street price CarPlay/Android Auto-ready Legend CP-100, delayed since last year by the Apple certification process, is due in February.  And Jensen (Dual Electronics) says it will ship its CarPlay radios (also delayed by Apple certification) by June of this year starting at a low suggested retail price of $399  for the Jensen VX4024 with a 6.2 inch screen, Bluetooth streaming, SiriusXM capability, and screen mirroring from a smartphone.

Alpine, Kenwood, Sony, Pioneer and JVC all showed new CarPlay radios at CES this month, with Clarion also announcing a new NX807, its first car radio with CarPlay.
