We visited Focal’s speaker factory and headquarters in St. Etienne, France. Two hundred people work in the factory, where speakers are hand-built and individually tested.

We saw K2 Kevlar cones being hand-built. Only 6 to 10 of them are produced each 15 minutes, which helps explain the $800 per pair price tag.

New FLAX cone speakers are produced with a layer of flax sandwiched between layers of fiber glass. The guy shown below making them is an expert.

We saw some of the new FLAX subwoofers due later this year on the assembly line.

All the factory machinery is designed by Focal.

Some of the factory’s workers have assembled speakers for more than 12 years.
