One of the most awarded dealers in the past year has just picked up another honor, this time the Alpine 2022 Customer Care Award. Xtreme Autosound & Marine of Louisville, KY also won last year’s Sony Mobile ES Demo Car Build contest and Kicker’s Dealer of the Year 2022..
Xtreme Autosound’s Michael Humphrey (sales and installation) says the shop has a pretty simple formula, “We just take care of the people. We don’t oversell them and don’t sell them all the garbage they don’t need.”
None of the shop’s employees are paid on commission, said the store’s owner Anthony Zagata. “I do things a little differently. The guys are just on salary and we do ‘first come, first serve.'” So, no appointments are booked in advance.
“I don’t schedule a single job ever. If someone asks if I can do it tomorrow, I say ‘absolutely, just get here at 9 am.’ Everyone else is booking three weeks out. We have seven guys now and we’re growing every year,” Zagata added.
Xtreme Autosound & Marine won the Alpine Customer Care Award for its “dedication to serving their customers and upholding the standards of the Alpine brand…” said Alpine’s Mike Anderson.
This is the second year that Alpine has offered the award.
As for Xtreme Autosound, the shop brings in $2 million a year, said Zagata. Installers are paid between $60 and $80K a year. There are two salespeople and four installers at the 20 year old shop and two employees have been with Xtreme since it first opened.
At a time when most shops are searching for installers, Zagata said he’s got installers trying to work for the store. But Zagata is cautious about expanding.
Thirty percent of sales at Xtreme are in marine and it is the only place in town that will work remotely at a marina.
Most car audio jobs fall in the $1,000 to $2,500 range but the store does one or two installs a week in the $4,000 to $5,000 range, it said.
In addition to Alpine, other brands carried include JL Audio, Sony, Kicker, Hertz, and Audison.
