MTX announced a new line of fully redesigned Thunder amplifiers, marking the first refresh of the line in eight years.
The Thunder series includes seven Class D models in monoblock, four-channel, five-channel, and six-channel configurations at a retail price range of $349.95 – $699.95.
Power ratings are based on the Consumer Technology Association standard, CTA2006D, from 250 to 1,000 watts RMS at 4 ohms. (See full amp ratings in the chart below).
MTX said, “Unlike most competitors, all models are CTA-2006D certified and are conservatively rated resulting in lots of power to spare. They feature 24db crossovers, Tiffany style RCAs, and an upgraded preamp stage to ensure excellent sound quality…”
The company added, “The goal for the new Thunder amplifier line is to give the customer an upper-mid to high-end amplifier, at mid-level price point.”
Features include:
- 1Ω stability (Mono-blocks and 5ch sub)
- Variable Subsonic & Bass Boost (Mono-blocks and 5ch sub)
- 24db Linkwitz Variable Crossovers
- Concealed Top-mount Controls
- Auto Turn-on via DC Offset
- Included External Bass Control Remote (Mono-blocks and 5ch)
- Power and Protection LED Status Indicator
- Thermal, Short, and Over/Under Voltage Protection
- High-Quality Tiffany-Style RCA Input
- 10V High-Level Audio Input Compatibility
- Clip Detection Light for Tuning Optimization
- Surface Mount Component Technology
- Direct Insert Power and Speaker Terminals
Each Thunder amplifier, similar to the new Terminator amplifiers, has its own “birth certificate” that displays the power ratings of that individual amplifier, which often exceed the listed specifications by as much as 25 percent.
