At its Worldwide Developers Conference yesterday Apple announced upgrades to CarPlay. It debuted a new more powerful Siri, called Siri AI, that will be accessible in CarPlay as well as throughout its new iOS 27 platform.
Siri AI can scan data from your messages or emails to help answer complex questions in a Chatbot style as you drive. Apple gave the example of asking Siri which trailhead a friend recommended, noted MacRumors.
The new Siri will be accessible with an iPhone 15 Pro or newer.
Apple also gave more details on video within CarPlay (a feature announced last year). When a user plays an iPhone app that supports AirPlay video streaming, the user can select to watch it on the car screen (if the car supports the feature, and if the car is parked).
With iOS 27, developers can also include video in CarPlay apps (for playback when the car is parked). Once you start driving again, audio from videos will continue to play even though the video is not visible. Users will also be able to browse through their videos within CarPlay.
IOS 27 is now available in beta for developers and is expected to be released to the public in September.
