Cicada, the motorcycle audio-only company, is expanding into systems for Honda Goldwings and other bike brands, and broadening its Harley offering.
The company shipped in January a new 4-inch premium speaker CXX4 for Honda Goldwing bikes. It’s a high performance speaker (where most 4-inch drivers are budget speakers), said Ron Trout. It joins a Cicada CXX525 that works in Honda, Indian and Harley bikes at $449. (See more below)
“At the rallies we’re seeing guys showing up with Goldwings and Indians. They are growing in sales,” said Marty Deane of Cicada. But Indians present some challenges, in terms of reaching a sales volume that covers the cost of new tooling. The Indian audio system uses amplified speakers in most cases. This presents some challenges not found in Harley-Davidson motorcycles, said Deane. “It’s a growing category but its not there yet,” he added.
Cicada will continue to explore the market for Indian audio replacement, said Trout.
The Cicada CXX4 for Goldwings is rated at 100 watts RMS power handling. It is available in 2 and 4 ohms at $399.
The CXX525 is a 5 1/4 inch speaker, also rated at 100 watts RMS/200 watts max.
In Harley audio, the company is turning its attention to Road Kings. Where Road Glides and Street Glides are the most popular bikes, and many aftermarket audio kits are offered for them, the Road King is also a big seller, with fewer aftermarket audio options, said Deane. Cicada plans to offer Road King products this year.
Other new products include complete replacement bags. These Extended Bags add some additional style while providing a bolt on solution to add up to a 10” subwoofer and a pair of 6×9’s. “We’ve taken all the hard work out of adding this type of installation. These are completely done and just need speakers installed,” said Deane.
