Cerwin Ships Unusual Powered Subs

Cerwin ships unusual powered subwoofer

Cerwin Vega is shipping two unusual under-the-seat powered subwoofers.  One includes a built-in 4.1-channel amplifier for system building, and the other a 2.1-channel amplifier. They are a departure from the typical mono amplifiers in under-the-seat powered subs that simply drive the subwoofer.

The units, models VPAS841 and VPAS821, first shown at the SEMA show last year, offer an 8-inch subwoofer in a sealed enclosure. The VPAS841 delivers 450 watts MAX /150 watts RMS power for the subwoofer and 70 watts RMS×4 for the full range outputs.

Other features include low-pass and subsonic filters, phase adjustments, and 20V line-level inputs for precise sound control and seamless OEM integration.

“The VPAS841 is not just about bass,” said John Catalano, Cerwin-Vega Director of Product Development. “It’s a complete 4.1 system that delivers deep bass, crystal-clear highs, and full-range audio quality. Whether enhancing your OEM factory audio or building a custom system from the ground up, the VPAS841 is the perfect solution.”

Retail pricing is $449 for the VPAS841 and $409 for the VPAS821.

  1. Loved the comment from the dude that had never heard of CV… that’s what everyone used in the it’s! On that Clarion head unit with the blue screen and dolphins jumping across… I competed with a hatchback that had 2 CV Strokers that took up the entire car and back seat area. Had to replace all the glass with riveted plexiglass! Side note, I’m about 50% deaf now. 🤷‍♂️

  2. I think he’s saying he had a black cerwin Vega speaker with a orange surround. LOL. I don’t think he understands that this is a sub and amp in one to build a full system around that fits under the seat. He also probably put some horrible Chinese amp full of distortion and maxed the gain out from the beginning, not knowing that speakers have a break-in period and that distortion and unwanted frequencies can destroy a speaker.

Also, I wanted to let you know that my favorite subs that I had in my 96 Camero were two 10″ Cerwin Vega 104 with the V-flex surround. Almost 149db at the dash. The hatch with the curved glass seemed to somewhat funnel the sound towards the front. Best in my highschool until a buddy walled off an Escalade. Also, thanks for bringing the strokers back! A legend of a sub!!!

    Thanks Cerwin Vega

  3. Seeing the Cerwin Vega Director of Product Development jumping into a CE article chat was not on my bingo card today haha. Love it though. Need more of this after decades of “race to the bottom” business modeling in the audio world. I haven’t considered CV for mobile builds in a very long time, unless it was customer-provided. Might have to take another look at the lineup soon.

  4. Hello???? Chris? Chris?? Would you care to share with the group how you acquired this CV sub unit installed and blew it?????

  5. Rockville makes one that’s identical to the last screw as that one or maybe cv make the one for Rockville or maybe there both made by the same Chinese junk manufacturer. There not even noticeable with my factory 6x9s and factory radio in my dodge caravan.

  6. I’ve never heard of CV audio before and I have been into car audio since the 90’s. 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️

  7. You guys remember how cv used to be. You could get a mk brutality with a cv 12 back in the day
Now you’d be lucky to gat a friendship 😂🤣

  8. Yeah. I’ll bite when CV goes back to private ownership by someone who cares about quality instead of cash. They made stupid amounts of money from the 80s onto the 00’s and lost the plot. They went massive and crapped on their customer base as a thank-you for the success.

    1. We have been in new ownership since 2015. We are driven to uphold the Cerwin-Vega legacy of the original CV.

  9. Yup. Had the same cv sub I bought for my wife’s car. It lasted 1 week. Should have read the reviews on it first, but didn’t based upon cv’s decent longevity.

    1. Lower price no one wants to pay $500 per speaker if that’s the case I’m going with some give me some square kickers maybe some strokers from you guys but I’m not paying $500 for that

      1. P.S. the square kickers are not that good when they first came out they got really hot in shallow mounts. Make sure you get the big box for them so they don’t get hot and blow

      2. I’m sorry you feel that way, this product fits a very specific need. Yes, there are less expensive options, but they cannot fill the all the needs that our offering provides in a single chassis and the footprint (space considerations). We do appreciate your opinon though.
