ZZ2 is introducing an updated version of its kit for Tesla that now adds wireless CarPlay/Android Auto directly into the factory Tesla touchscreen.
The new ZZ2 unit connects to the Tesla MCU (micro controller unit) for full integration and control by the factory touch commands. It is designed to be installed by a professional installer, said ZZ2.
ZZ2 notes the new ZZTSL is not a browser or USB solution. No hotspot is required and there is no interference to Tesla’s app environment. ZZ2’s first CarPlay/Android kit for Tesla was a DIY USB solution requiring a hotspot without the seamless integration of the new “pro” ZZTSL version.
“We get tons of phone calls from Tesla owners that had a car with CarPlay and Android Auto and now they are looking for CarPlay for their Tesla,” said Tiago Sperandio. “If you go on forums, there’s a lot of people asking for CarPlay for this car, which is why we decided to do this pro version.” Tesla vehicles do not come with CarPlay/Android Auto.
Once the installer connects to the Tesla MCU (usually located by the glove compartment) a CarPlay/Android icon becomes visible on the OEM infotainment screen.
