Lucas Lighting launched 6-volt compatible LED headlight bulbs that are some of the few, if not the only bulbs, to allow drivers to retain their DRLs (daytime running lights) even after an LED headlight upgrade.
A daytime running light is a special light on the front of a car that stays on all the time when the car is driving, even during the day when it’s bright outside.
These lights are different from regular headlights. They’re not as bright, and their main job is to help other drivers see your car better. Think of them like a safety feature – they make your car more visible so other people driving can spot you more easily, which helps prevent accidents.
For customers who use the automatic headlight feature, DRLs are running at 50 percent brightness, usually at 6 volts.
Lucas Lighting says its bulb is unique in retaining the DRL feature. VP Steve Rogers said during an interview at the recent PNWCEE event, “We could not find a competitor’s bulb that works on 6-volts. They might be out there, but we have not seen it. We are incorporating the new 6-volt compatible bulb as a running change as the parts become available. The 6-volt platform only came available in October of 2024, and we are proud to offer the more advanced version of our LED headlight bulbs.”
While useful, DRLs are not mandatory in the US, however, they are required in Canada, the European Union, and in over 60 countries around the world.
