Uniden announced at the SEMA Show a new a la carte program for its R9 custom radar detector system aimed at 12 volt retailers. This includes a custom radar (front only) system and a separate laser add-on pack.
Also, new for 12 volt retailers are two dash mount detectors that ship in a special bundle for 12 volt retailers.
All of the new products are now available with WiFi, including the full R9 system, which is now called the R9w. When in WiFi range, (and when used with a new Uniden app, R-Tach), the user is prompted when updates are available. This allows the user to add filters to prevent interference by new blind spot or ADAS systems and to add new red light camera or speed camera warnings.
The a la carte offerings for the R9w custom radar system include the R9w starter pack with a front-seat-only customizable full DSP radar system. It uses a Dual DSP Blackfin processor and helps installers tailor the radar system to the customer’s needs.
Uniden also offers Dynamic Laser Transceiver Add-On Packs that add laser protection to the new R9w front-only systems. The laser packs (which guard against targeting by laser guns) are also compatible with new Uniden dash mount radar detectors (models R4w and R8w).
The R4w is the entry level detector, and the R8w is the top end. They are WiFi updatable. And while these will be available in mass merchants, 12 volt retailers will receive a special version with a hard wire kit with a mute button to differentiate them from the other merchants.
The R4w has a full DSP Blackfin processor for superior range and performance. The R8w adds a dual DSP Blackfin processor.
The full R9w system provides full radar and laser protection and is powered by Quad DSP Blackfin processors for maximum detection and response accuracy. This is a total defense system.

The products will ship following the 2024 SEMA Show, with the R4w, R8w, R9w Front-only, and Shifter add-on packs launching in January 2024. The R-Tach App will also be available after the SEMA show.
