DS18, known for its car audio SPL and Pro Audio products, has teamed with Steve Meade Designs (SMD), a leading car audio influencer and supplier of installer tools, to offer a line of .
The amplifiers are made in Korea and include a signature SMD tool, the VM-1 voltmeter, to allow installers to determine the amount of voltage available in the vehicle for an install.
The voltmeter and other amplifier parts are visible under acrylic and the amplifier includes user-controllable LED lights.
“As far as we know, we are only one of two” suppliers to collaborate with SMD, the other being D’Amore Engineering, which produces the VM-1, said DS18’s Sasha Susterman.
The SMD line includes quality amplifiers with premium parts, said Susterman. “Everything is no expense spared, from high quality Korean components, Tiffany RCAs, Japanese fans, engraved signature into the acrylic, to even the weight of the acrylic.”
The collaboration was two years in the making, from idea to shipping, which is expected in November.
Susterman said, “We brainstormed on ideas of what we can bring that is new to the industry.” He said a collaboration between a manufacturer and an influencer can benefit not only DS18 and SMD but the industry as a whole. ”
There are eight amplifiers in the line up, which is split evenly between Class AB and Class D amplifiers. They range from the 4-channel, Class AB, SMD-200.4 rated at 200 watts by 4 at 2 0hms for $399.95 to an 8500 watt RMS Class -D mono amplifier, SMD-8500.1D at $1,499.
Steve Meade has been a die hard car audio enthusiast for the past 18 years. His YouTube channel, , has 1.09 million subscribers and he bills his website, SMD , as the “#1 car audio site world-wide.”
