ECOXGEAR, under its SOUNDEXTREME powersports brand, announced two car audio amplifiers for 48v to 72v electric vehicles (EVs). The amplifiers eliminate the need for step-down converters.
The SoundExtreme 4-channel EV30041 amplifier and the monoblock EV30011 can be used without complex wiring to connect directly to the vehicle’s 48v-72v battery. The amplifiers can be used in golf carts and powersports vehicles as well as electric cars.
CEO of ECOXGEAR Greg Fadul said the biggest target for the amps at present are golf carts. About 75 percent of golf carts ship with lithium ion batteries that are 48 to 72 volts, he said. In addition, Polaris began selling last year the electric Ranger XP. “Others are talking about introducing more [EV UTVs] later this year,” said Fadul.
He noted that a high powered step down converter for a traditional amplifier would add about $75 to $100 to the install in an EV.
The SoundExtreme amplifiers are both IPX67 waterproof certified, with sealed die-cast aluminum chassis.
The 4-channel EV30041 amplifier delivers 75 watts RMS by 4 and the monoblock EV30011 delivers 300 watts RMS and 750 watts peak power.
Both include a built-in DSP crossover control for frequency filter adjustments ranging from 20Hz-6Khz, 24 dB/Octave for high-pass to 55Hz to 6kHz, 24dB/Octave for low pass.
The amplifiers will be available in late March on www.soundextreme.com and select dealers, starting from $299.99.
ECOXGEAR is a 17-year old company out of Houston that sells waterproof powersports, marine and outdoor audio to dealers including big box stores such as Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s as well as Costco and Sam’s Club. It sells through about 1,000 UTV dealers and 1,000 golf cart dealers across the US and about 100 car audio dealers, said Fadul. ECOXGEAR holds patents on waterproof soundbars and marine grade speakers.
