Porsche, Aston Martin Get Next Generation of CarPlay

The next generation of CarPlay, originally announced over a year ago, will first appear in vehicles from Porsche and Aston Martin, with the later offering the new CarPlay in 2024, said CarandDriver.

The new CarPlay extends to all the screens in the car, not just the radio.  It can display information from the car’s instrument cluster and infotainment system such as gauges for speed, temperature, RPMs, and fuel level.  Apple said back in June 2022 that users may “tune your radio or change the temperature without leaving the CarPlay experience.”

With the new CarPlay there is also room for car makers to customize the display to retain their particular brand differentiation, said CarandDriver.

Aston Martin said next gen CarPlay “is compatible with its latest infotainment system that launches in 2024 in vehicles such as the DB12 coupe and DB12 convertible…” said CarandDriver.  Porsche did not give a time frame for adopting the new  CarPlay.

Given Porsche’s relationship to the Volkswagen Group and Aston Martin’s relation to Mercedes and Lucid, CarandDriver believes we may expect to see the new CarPlay in vehicles from these car makers.
