Porsche updated CarPlay capability, providing a glimpse at the future of CarPlay in new cars.

Through an update to its My Porsche app, the car maker is now integrating My Porsche features into CarPlay.  Buttons for climate controls and interior lights now appear in the user interface.  Users can change radio stations and adjust sound profiles within CarPlay.

CarandDriver noted, “Possibly the most exciting part of the update comes from the ability to use voice activation and Siri for things like changing climate control or radio settings.”

Porsche will add other features to CarPlay in the future, it said.

The new My Porsche update is now available for the Porsche Cayenne and will roll out to other models.

In June, Apple announced the ability for CarPlay to incorporate new features, but it requires car companies adopt them.  So far Porsche is the first and only to do so, short of a minor feature added by new EV maker Polestar.

Apple said the new CarPlay will allow gauge cluster and other information such as HVAC controls to appear in the CarPlay interface and let CarPlay information appear in the gauge cluster.
