AudioControl is shipping most of its new subwoofer and speaker lines—the first in its 45-year history– and new PRO versions of two line out converters (LOCs).
AudioControl’s new Pacific Northwest (PNW) line includes a few nods to its specialty in integration. The series includes a 3.5 inch model that comes with a break-away tab that can be opened to create a bolt-on speaker for Jeep Wrangler JL’s without the need for extra adapters, but the speaker is also universal for other applications. The 4-inch model is the same, but with bolt-on for Ford Broncos, (while also remaining a universal speaker).
The PNW line is also a bit unusual in that the speakers are 3-ohm so they can better match AudioControl’s 2-ohm amplifiers. The series has a total of nine coaxial and component speakers plus a separate crossover module for components. Pricing ranges from $99/pair for 2.75-inch components to $329/pair for 6 x 9 components.
These are joined by two subwoofer lines-Space and Spike, with Space including low profile 10- and 12-inch subs in 2 and 4 ohm configurations ($199 to $229) and Spike offering 8-, 10- and 12-inch subs, also in either 2 or 4 ohms ($199 to $279). (See more here).
Also new are the LC7i PRO and LC5i PRO LOCs that offer new features above the standard LC7i and LC5i.
The PRO models come with built-in selection 20, 60 or 20K ohm resistors which are required in many new vehicles. For some cars, NO load to the output of the factory amp will make some factory amps unstable and stop passing audio. The Load Select feature tricks the factory amp into detecting a speaker load so it will continue to pass audio. The standard models require a separate LGD load resistor where the PRO model only requires moving a switch.
Other PRO features:
Selectable Signal Bus – Offers channel summing to provide a full range signal that addresses OEM systems with equalization. In previous models, this would require opening the unit and applying a “Jumper.” Again, this is now a matter of a switch.
Selectable Ground Isolation – Occasionally, alternator noise may appear in a system because the source unit and amplifier are using different grounding schemes. This also requires a “Jumper” in non-PRO models. This is also now controlled via a switch for GND, ISO and 200 ohm, configurations.
