Spotify is expected to announce a new premium audio streaming plan that offers Hi-Res Audio, according to Bloomberg News and Reuters.

Stepping up consumers to Hi-Res Audio has long been a goal in car audio.  And for years suppliers have said that consumers would be more likely to buy new Hi-Res components once Hi-Res streaming was more widely available.

The announcement, if true, might be a significant step in that direction.

Bloomberg did not mention a price for the new Spotify Hi-Res audio service, which is called “Supremium” internally.

In addition to Hi-Res Audio, subscribers will get wider access to audiobooks and free audiobook titles or a free number of streaming hours, Bloomberg said.

The service is expected to launch in October.

Radio & Internet News (RAIN) noted the following on pricing: “Amazon Music and Apple Music both offer lossless HiFi listening in their normal subscription tiers. Apple Music is priced at $10.99 per month while Spotify has held resolutely to the $9.99 fee. So the customer proposition of paying a dollar more for HiRez listening is plausible.” But again, no pricing was reported.
