MasterTech Expo 2023

The second annual MasterTech Expo, March 5-8,  is gaining attention as a key event for the  “maker” and other segments of the 12 volt market and related fields.

The show expects to increase attendance by almost a third over last year and vendor space has been sold out for months.

The Expo is conducted as a mini “university” and is filled with build contests and awards totaling more than $30K. Kenwood will hold a bike build at its booth, and Dean and Fernando are holding a clean wire challenge where contestants wire up an amp rack system in front of a crowd. MasterTech Expo is holding a lighting contest, where entrants bring their own panels.

Show founder and Mobile Solutions CEO Bryan Schmitt said the event differs from SEMA and other shows in that all participants pay to enter and presenters are paid. The result is everyone is heavily invested and brings their A game.

The Mobile Electronics Specialists of America (MESA) buying group will have a strong presence at the event.  “MESA is hugely involved. They probably have 100 techs alone attending plus owners.  They have rented Airbnb’s for their entire team,” said Schmitt.  MESA will host a suite at the event and hold meetings throughout the day.

The Expo has become the third largest event held in the city of MESA, AZ and the mayor will be on hand at the opening ceremony.

Chip Foose of Overhaulin’ fame will be a celebrity speaker at the show and Aron Demers, Vice President, Automotive Aftermarket Business at VOXX will take the stage for a State of the Industry interview and discussion.

Educational tracks include: Modern Tech (audio system design); School of Fab (3D printing and more); Master Design (system design including CAD software).   Electives include Luxury Marketing, Welding, Coding Audrino/Advanced Lighting.

The fee to attend is $849 including all meals.  Owners who don’t wish to attend classes can enter at a reduced fee of $249 and still attend manufacturer trainings.

12 volt vendors attending include Kenwood, Sony, Alpine, JVC, JBL, Rockford, Metra, VOXX, JL Audio, Kicker, Compustar, Audison, AudioFrog, Morel, Arc Audio AAMP, Orca (Focal), MSC America, Wet Sounds, Sound Shield, DOW, MTI Acoustics, SiriusXM and SoundShield.
