Sony Car Audio has announced the top 10 demo car finalists for its recent Sony Mobile ES build contest. The contest was unusual in that it attracted 70 entries and it was the first such Sony contest in many years.
The program was designed to incentivize dealers to build demo cars for themselves and their shops, and to specifically motivate them to get more acquainted with Sony Mobile ES product and demonstrate it.
The systems ranged from every day builds to installations over $10k.
Finalists included:

- All That Jazz – Philadelphia, PA
- Audio Edge – Phoenix, AZ
- Car Toys Tulsa – Tulsa, OK
- Car Toyz – Richmond, VA
- Kartele Mobile Electronics – Waterbury, CT
- M&C Car Audio – San Antonio, TX
- Ox Audio – Cheltenham, PA
- Sound Decision – Johnson City, TN
- Xtreme Auto Sound – Louisville, KY
The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will be announced early next week.
Sony said it was surprised at the number of entries. “Dealers put so much time and energy into this, it’s incredible. I think it’s because it’s what resonates with them. If you mention to a dealer that they should remodel their store, or build a new display, more times than not you are met with resistance and an unenthusiastic reply, but ask them to build a car to show off their skills and expertise – that is right in their wheelhouse,” said Sony Car audio Distribution Accounts Manager Anthony Tozzi.
Contestants were tasked with building an effective Sony Mobile ES demo vehicle with the following expectations:
- Use your installation creativity to highlight Sony Mobile ES benefits to consumers.
- Highlight the Mobile ES name in the build.
- Demonstrate how you’ll use the vehicle as a practical sales tool to sell Sony Mobile ES systems.
Four industry members independent of Sony served as contest judges and will be officially revealed next week.
In addition to custom plaques and significant account credits for Sony products, the top prize winner gets high-end Sony wireless noise-canceling headphones for the whole crew and a staff dinner with their Sony Field Account Manager.
