Prices are rising on car audio and remote start products from leading brands.

JL Audio, Pioneer, Rockford Fosgate, and Compustar are among the brands announcing recent price increases.  Directed, we are told, is also raising prices but we were unable to confirm this at press time.

JL Audio’s price hike is temporary, due directly to a surge in shipping costs.

According to a recent letter to dealers, the company said shipping costs have spiked in recent weeks.   “In the past month, [shipping] has jumped once again, reaching unprecedented levels that are 250% higher than we were paying in early 2020,” it said, citing the lack of space on ships, port congestion in the US and Asia and heavy volume in trans-oceanic freight.

JL said it tried to keep down prices but is now adding a temporary surcharge until shipping rates “drop back down to reasonable levels.”  All products shipped June 24 or after (including past orders yet to ship) will carry a 2.5 percent “Transportation Surcharge” on the total order until further notice, said the company.

Pioneer told dealers it is raising dealer and minimum advertised prices effective August 1. It cited the costs of “raw materials, components and global logistics.”

Rockford raised prices June 1 and Compustar is raising prices as of July 1.
