Alpine introduces modular Halo subwoofer enclosures

Alpine Electronics of America is now shipping its first full line of pre-loaded subwoofer enclosures.

The series falls under the Halo sub-brand, made popular by Alpine’s large screen radios. The enclosures use the same silver trim of its Halo radios and also borrow the “stacking” concept from Alpine’s PowerStack amplifiers, said the company.

The Halo enclosures, announced at CES this month, can be connected by a linking kit to form a dual enclosure.   The modular boxes are loaded with Alpine’s model R mid-level woofers or model S entry level woofers in 10- and 12-inch sizes.

The 10 inch models are shipping now with the 12 inch versions and the linking kit to ship by the end of the month.

The modular approach allows customers to buy a single enclosure and then add a second enclosure later with the linking kit, which includes a front and back plate. A secondary benefit is that dealers can carry less inventory to cover both single and dual boxes.

Alpine said creating something innovative in a category that has been well established was a challenge.  “We wanted to design something that helped our specialists satisfy customers looking for the custom look without having to dedicate the time, money or compromise the vehicle to accomplish this,” said Chris Teguh, Alpine National Trainer.

Subwoofer enclosures have been a growing category in recent years.  According to NPD data, the category has grown by 65 percent for the top preloaded models between 2016 and 2019, or roughly 16 percent per year for some models.

Halo enclosures with 10-inch drivers are the S-SB10V R-SB10V.  Shipping later this month is the  linking kit KTX-H10 and the 12-inch subwoofer enclosures, S-SB12V and R-SB12V.

Suggested retail prices are as follows:

S-SB10V $299.95

R-SB10V $399.95

KTX-H10 $79.95 linking kit

S-SB12V $319.95

R-SB12V $419.95

KTX-H12 $79.95 linking kit
