Fiat Chrysler announced today a new Uconnect infotainment system that is so fast it is “instantaneous,” it claimed. The new system also adds wireless CarPlay and Android Auto wireless as well as Amazon Alexa.
Due later this year, the new system will support 12.3-inch ultra HD screens. It uses SiriusXM 360L service with on-demand programming and more channels. (Users also get a 12 month free trial).
The fifth generation Uconnect is five times faster than the earlier generation due to a 50K MIP chip and 6GB of RAM. It now also runs on an Android operating system and allows over-the-air updates.
Users can ask Alexa to start the car and lock/unlock doors. While driving, they can ask Alexa to play music, podcasts or check the weather or add to to-do lists, and more.
Uconnect also offers a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot with improved speed and support of up to 8 devices. It also enables in-car purchases for gas, food and beverages.
The system uses TomTom built in navigation. It is available on all FCA brands including Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, Maserati, and Fiat.
