Metra Electronics is shipping two new dash kits made exclusively for Pioneer’s new 8-inch “floating screen” radios. These will be followed by an additional 10 kits to allow Pioneer’s large-screened radios to fit in a variety of dashboards.
The two initial Metra kits include a model for the Jeep Wrangler (2011-2017) and a universal kit for most vehicles. Kits for Ford, Toyota, Dodge and General Motors will follow.
The Pioneer 8 inch radio began shipping in March at $650. It has a modular design with a touchscreen display that detaches from a hideaway control unit. The radio, model DMH-C5500NEX, also has a shallow chassis so it can fit in more new vehicles. It includes CarPlay and Android Auto.
But as it is a different size than standard double DIN radios it requires dash kits.
The Metra 108-UN01 is a Universal Trim Ring that adds a ⅜ inch border that snaps onto the Pioneer radio screen.
The 108-CH1B is designed for installation of the DMH-C5500NEXradio into 2011-2017 Jeep Wrangler models and is painted matte black.
