Metra Intros Three New AX-DSP Amp Interfaces

Metra Electronics is expanding its AX-DSP amplifier interface line, which simplifies adding an aftermarket amplifier to a digital OEM system.

It announced three new models, which like the original AX-DSP, let users keep their factory radio but replace the factory amplifier.  Part of a new class of DSP/amp interfaces that first launched about two years ago, they take the audio signal directly from the car’s bus system for a clean installation that retains chime and voice prompt volume control from the radio.

A new AX-DSP-X adds more processing channels, up to 10 output channels compared to the original model’s 6 channels. It also adds an option to password protect settings from your smartphone.  It is available in a water resistant model, the AX-DSPX-WR, for marine and powersports vehicles.

Then there’s a new AX-DSP-LITE that drops the smartphone app for tuning.

The new 10-channel AX-DSP-X also adds another new feature to the original Metra DSP– each channel has independent two-way/three-way crossovers in-line with the EQ.   It works with a number of cars through vehicle specific wiring harnesses that are included in new AX-DSPX  packages.  It can work with MOST50, MOST25 and SPDIF amplified systems. For Harley-Davidson, the water-resistant AX-DSPX-WR with a water-resistant plug-n-play harness is included.

Regarding the new “lite” model, AX-DSP-LITE, it may be controlled through a PC. It does not have the 31 band graphic EQ or selectable high and low level outputs of the other models.  Metra said many installers use the AX-DSP solely for the purpose of converting six channels of fixed level/digitally controlled analog audio to an analog signal to use with another aftermarket amplifier or DSP.  So, they don’t need these other features.

Shipping dates and pricing will be announced.
