Apple will add a “revolutionary” new feature to the iPhone 8 predicts an analyst who has had an accurate track record in forecasting Apple announcements.

The iPhone 8 will allow 3D selfies and augmented reality through a highly advanced front-facing camera and IR sensor that scans the area in front of the phone in 3D, according to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Augmented reality could literally change the face of mobile gaming. It could be use to actually place the player’s 3D head on a video game character’s body, said reports.

“The possibilities are practically endless when it comes to augmented reality and inserting advanced 3D scans of physical objects into the virtual world on the phone,” said BGR.com.

Other analysts predict the iPhone 8 will have facial recognition and it will lose the home button with finger print scanning launching from the screen.  Some expect a curved form factor and an AMOLED display, as well as wireless charging, according to 9to5Mac. The iPhone 8 is also expected to have a longer battery life as well as a high price tag.

While the introduction of an iPhone 8 is about 7 months away, Apple rival Samsung is expected to launch a new Galaxy S8 and S8+ in about a month and LG is expected to announce a new G6 next week.
