Metra will unveil at the SEMA Show next week a new line of Turbo Touch radio replacement kits that include their own touch screens and retain climate and other controls, including steering wheel controls.
The vehicle specific dash kits not only provide a bezel so you can fit an aftermarket radio in the dash opening but they include electronics to read the CAN bus signals from the vehicle to keep personalization and safety settings active, including Ford Sync and OnStar functions.
The kits also retain the car’s backup camera, sensors, tire pressure, and trip data. These are controlled by a 4.3 touch screen and buttons integrated in the kit.
Turbo Touch dash kits also use a patented system to autodetect and retain the steering wheel controls in the car so you don’t need a separate interface.
Metra said the kits will “automatically detect the vehicle’s radio, and other configurations to perform in that application. No flipping dip-switches or programming buttons is required as the configuration is automatic. Steering wheel control functionality is also retained, eliminating the need to purchase and install a separate steering wheel control interface.”
The first kits will be offered for late model years for the following vehicles:
Dodge Durango
Jeep Grand Cherokee
Ford F-150
Ford Fusion
Ram Truck
Ford Mustang
Ford Taurus
Turbo Touch kits will be on display at Metra’s booth, #11629 (North Hall) at the 2016 SEMA show in Las Vegas from 11/1 – 11/4.
