Rydeen will ship next month a blind spot detector with new microwave technology.  It offers improved blind spot accuracy and fewer false alerts than the earlier ultrasonic sensor-based systems.

Rydeen joins VOXX and Accele as early suppliers of the microwave technology, which also has the benefit of “seeing through” plastic so the sensors can mount behind the bumper without the need for drilling.

Rydeen’s model BSS1 will ship at the end of November at a suggested retail price of $599.  It comes with two sensors that mount behind the back bumper and nickel-sized indicators that mount on the car’s A pillar.  Drivers see an indicator light if there is an object in their blind spot.

The system also links to the car’s turn signals to give audible alerts.

Rydeen’s Phil Maeda said that microwave technology gives you a detection range of 50 feet versus earlier ultrasonic technology with a range of 9 or 10 feet.

The BSS1 will be on display at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, booth #11961  in the North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center, where Rydeen will display along with distribution partner AE Distributing.

Rydeen is showing other new driver safety products including a 4.3-inch screen “Smart Mirror” with built-in DVR and navigation, model MN450S, and a new backup camera featuring  active parking lines, model CM-APL.
